State Sen. Eric Adams, Assemblywoman Vanessa Gibson and Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries announced the proposed law today. It would require anyone convicted of domestic violence to be listed in a Domestic Violence Offender Database.

Police say 23-year-old Sarah Coit was fatally stabbed and nearly decapitated last week during a domestic dispute with her boyfriend in their Lower East Side apartment. Authorities say the suspect in Coit’s death, Raul Barrera, has been linked to several violent incidents in the past. He pleaded guilty to smashing a man in the face with a bottle last year.

Barrera is charged with second-degree murder in his girlfriend’s death after turning himself in to police

The purpose behind making the names of sex crimes offenders public is to warn the general public that these criminals are living in their neighborhood and to be especially careful of them. Much as I detest domestic violence and wish offenders would have severe sentences I don’t think this is called for any more than making public the names of people who have commited other crimes such as burglary…in fact, making public the names of burglars and thieves would do a greater good for the public. People who commit domestic violence are not necessarily dangerous to the general public, and the people who are in danger from them already know it.

Read THE SHAME BORNE IN SILENCE by Rabbi Abraham Twerski, MD. We all have to do more, to shine a light on these perpetrators and protect our innocent women and children (mostly it’s the men who are the perpetrators, albeit not always).

Here’s another thought, probably not politically correct:

How about a registry with the names of all the Jewish divorced women who violate their divorce settlements with their husbands by not permitting them legal visitation or joint custody rights, while at the same time collecting child support and alimony?

Do you want to date a woman who behaves like that to her former husband?

Well then let’s just have these lists for every single person who’s committed every kind of criminal act because:
    a) Burglary — shouldn’t you know that someone who’s been convicted of breaking into houses lives next door and might break into yours?
    b) Assault — who wants someone who’s assaulted anyone living in their neighborhood?
    c) Vandalism — If there was a list of vandals we’d know who to look for when someone puts a swastika on a front door or smashes our car windows
    d) Forgery — what if this forger goes through your garbage and finds something with your signature?
    e) Drunk Driver — make sure everyone’s indoors before this neighbor goes driving down the street
    f) Parent who doesn’t pay child support — Who wants to be set up with someone who doesn’t pay for the care of his/her children? Make a list of these bums and make it public!
    g) Murder — need I add anything to this?
    h) other crimes I can’t think of right now

It would be nice to have a way to protect ourselves from these criminals but I don’t think making lists public is the way to to it.

Thats sounds like a key to disaster – women will start making false reports on their ex husbands for money or custody like they do with the false sex abuse cases

A woman who verbally abuses her husband should also be put in a registry. Who would want to marry such a person? Men should be protected from entering relationships with women who repeatedly psychologycally abuse their parteners. I am sure there are many such women walking free out there.
