Reader Michael Tapp painted us a picture of the craziness of the scene: “The checkout line an hour before B&H Photo Video shuts down Passover (8 Days). The wait was over an hour long and one of the clerks said that this was the busiest he has ever seen the store. A few B&H employees couldn’t even figure out where the line started on the 1st floor.”

If B&H can be closed, everyone can be closed, there is no heter to be open chol hamoed, customers appreciate when the reason being closed are for religious purposes and they don’t mind at all.

Cut the bashing already, I have no choice but to work on chol hamoed!, I would love to be home and spend the whole day with my children, however I Must go to work. I work in the transportation industry and we are open 7 days a week, yes we have a heter mechira and truth be told we loose $ from being open on shabbos, however in order to have contracts with hospitals and dialasis centers we have no choice. So to all of you bashers just be thankful that you are able to stay out of work on chol hamoed for the rest of us ……we will go to work……oh and btw I’m an employee

Big kiddush Hashem that B&H is the biggest and most respected internet seller of photographic equipment in the world and their website has their yom tov dates on their home page.

i have to laugh at some of these idiotic comments, one thing is absolutely certain,it is a much bigger transgression of chol-hamoed,if you waste your time surfing the internet, than working and making a living

It’s a lot of tourist traffic, too. They know they had to buy then or likely not get in at all. B&H makes it clear to everyone in their flyers when they are open and closed, I walk by there and cannot help but notice the number of tourists who make a point of visiting. It’s almost as well known as Century21.

With all due respect for the owners of B&H, I think that they are able to make ends meet without being open on chol hamoed. Of course they lose much business for being closed those few days, but on the other hand there are people who have con edison knocking on there door threatining to cut off electricity, or the local grocer not wanting to deal with them and have no choice but to work on chol hamoed.
