Brooklyn, NY – The Department of Transportation went on a towing and ticket blitz in Williamsburg yesterday — apparently forgetting that it was still a Jewish holiday.

More than 41 cars were towed and more than 100 given summonses, even though it was Passover. Community leader Isaac Abraham said parking was scheduled to be suspended Tuesday and Wednesday for Passover, but the NYPD Traffic Enforcement apparently thought the affected days were Monday and Tuesday.
IDIOTS. DOT, not Yidden. Obviously, they don’t read their own rules. They should deliver the cars back to the owners, but that would take the lazy bums weeks.
Wait a sec….there’s no alternate side in WB on Wednesday. So unless the cars were a) parked illegally (crosswalk, hydrant etc) or they had outstanding tickets they shouldn’t have been ticketed or towed for non-observance of alternate side…on Wednesday.
Something doesn’t make sense.
Let’s not get all worked up on this. All it is- is a waste of paper.
Oh boy, I sure hope they cancel the tickets without a court hearing and return the towed cars with no charge.
I guess they confused it with next week.
The wine the DOT used for the “Arba Kosos” was to strong for them……
Whoever had his car towed should check it when he gets it back to make sure the guys towing it didn’t use it and had a good c…z sandwich in it.
They knew very well just did it b/c the yidden wouldn’t b able to give the tow truck driver an argument
Suspend without pay the incompetent and inept administrators of the Transportation Dept., who were responsible for this fiasco!
Alternate side parking is suspended but meter and other parking rules are not.
The cars were towed from Bedford Avenue is a no standing zone every day from 7am to 10am for rush hour traffic.
That’s what they are good at. Where where they when the snow was coming down hard and fast and the streets were all clogged up?
thanks, #8 for clarifying.
Just made a calculation that the City raked in $13,500 on our backs over yom tov by towing the 44 cars. Shame on you Bloomberg!!!
By the way were are all of our politicians and so called askonim? Having pre yom tov meetings and taking pictures with all the big shots in the police dept they are good at but to help us hard working people they are all lost somewhere and you don’t hear from them.
Its time for a mass demonstration and show the askonim and big shots who is the boss and who represents the Jewish community.
Alternate side parking rules in NYC have and will be suspended Tuesday 4/19 thru Friday 4/22, also they again will be suspended Monday 4/25 and Tuesday 4/26. The suspension only covers alternate side of the street cleaning rules, all other rules and meters are in effect. The following link is from the NYC DOT and shows the 2011 alternate parking suspension dates. In an emergency other days can be added, such as snow etc. The DOT provides this list every year and it’s easy to print. http://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/motorist/scrintro.shtml#2011
If anyone is in violation of any other rule or owes for outstanding overdue tickets then they can be ticketed or towed during these days. There are also several lesser known rules that will allow the city to ticket your vehicle even if parked legally. An example is…defective equipment (broken off side mirrors, broken windshield, missing front or rear lights). The registration and inspection stickers must be in the proper position (inspection to the right and registration to the left facing the towards the vehicle) Any cover over or around the license plate can also be grounds for a summons (even if 100% clear)
This is reprahensible. Try to find your car after a tow. Noone seems to know where it is. Then fines and penelties. Last time they towed my new bmw it took days to find. Where is chuck schoomer on this?
I got 2 tickets this yom tov in willi for expired meter. does anyone know if I can fight it
Where are all of our so called leaders? Politicians? Anyone see them? Tell them that reporters are there to take their pictures and they will all come running to take credit and give statements.
Just remember to vote for whoever they tell you to vote for and don’t forget to vote Bloomberg!!!
Well, the cops met their quotas for tickets, etc., for this month. They don’t care if they were wrong. It pays for them to be wrong and make their quotas. There are no consequences for them for being wrong. I think they knew and did it anyway.
The DOT didn’t forget anything. They’re hoping that people won’t have time to fight the tickets and will simply pay up.
