Williamsburg, NY – NYPD Ticket Blitz “Ruined” Passover Holiday

Williamsburg, NY – The Orthodox Jewish community in Williamsburg was furious yesterday over the NYPD’s Passover ticket and tow blitz, in which more than 100 tickets were written and about 30 vehicles hooked.

“We have a lot of respect for the Police Department, but we’re looking for just a little sensitivity,” complained Isaac Abraham, a community leader.

“Summonses I can see, but there’s no reason for the towing. You’re towing a guy’s car when you know he can’t move it.”

Alternate-side parking rules were suspended Tuesday and Wednesday for the first two days of Passover — when observant Jews do not work or drive — but cops still wrote a slew of tickets for other offenses.

Zev Deutsch, a father of eight, shelled out $205 for towing and storage to get his minivan from the pound, and faces two tickets, at $115 each, for parking in a no-standing zone. “It ruined my holiday,” he fumed.

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said no cars were towed for alternate-side-of-the-street violations.

So next time don’t act like a bunch of wise guys who think they own the world and obey the regulations!

Mr. Deutsch ruined his own holiday – why did he leave his car parked in a NO STANDING ZONE?

Sorry, but we’ve been through this drill for several years. The NYPD are showing great sensitivty to the needs of the heimeshe community by suspending alternate side of the street parking rules for all of yom tov (including the goiyeshe holiday today which comes out on chol hamoed). However, there are always some ehrliche yidden who will take advantage of the situation and park illegally next to intersections, hydrants and other no parking zones in the hope that the police will simply ignore ALL parking rules, most of which are designed for safety reasons. That kind of selfish mentality jeopardizes the alternate side parking suspension for all of us. I’m glad these cars were ticketed and towed so hopefully these yidden will obey the rules next time. Stop whining. You took the risk and you lost. Next time, PARK LEGALLY over yom tov.

Williamsburg Jews have to learn to read English.Perhaps the city should change the signs in ethnic neighborhoods to also reflect the residents language , such as the various dialects of chinese, russian, polish, spanish, etc. ?That’s an idea even the liberals haven’t come-up with, yet…

Whats wrong with these Williamsburg people, I’m shocked at Issac Abraham, use your influence when needed not to rectify ignorant chasidishe big-shots..

Its a shame that a $150 ticket or a $300 tow charge could “Ruin” a Yom Tov. If your kid broke a leg L”O, that shouldn’t “ruin” your yom tov. But for a ticket. Whoever says their yom tov was ruined because of such a trivial matter is a shanda

The outrage that these citizens are having is a huge chilul hashem. YOU parked in a non standing zone. YOU parking in front of a fire hydrant. On a holiday when we are celebrating our liberation from slavery, lets not forget that we are not yet free. Pay your ticket and learn a valuable lesson. Eating matzah and reclining on your pillow does not give you the right to ignore the laws of the land.

its a shame to the Jewish faith what hate and anti antisemitism YOU people reply and write towards the Williamsburg community, especially to #5 the “SIMCHE” you show that this person got ticketed , the person of #4 writes his story and i fully believe him as he’s not from this part of town so it makes sense that he asked a police officer on the street if its OK , and as if YOU people know the NYPD system they have no problem to tell U its OK to park there and as soon he watches you leave the car to issue U a summons, I could only wish that all of U self hating Jews should be ticketed on the Second Days , Let us williamsburg Yidden also have A Simches yom tov,You should be ashamed of your self by such replies,It seems that U fully agree with the corrupt DOT system &#4 0;These summonses were not given by the NYPD&#4 1; this is the traffic agents which issue YOU people a summons probably every day or so in your native town of Brooklyn , Its your hate towards Chasidim as well as the jealousy that we have some one sticking up for us as the largest CHESED community on earth, You have one choice, Start doing the same help others shell out some $$$ for other Jews, you’ll start to feel much better

Not everybody hates, but everyone loves to comment on “anyone” that is different. Not everything is about hatred. I think about that everytime I get a ticket in Park Slope. But once I pay, I forget I ever drove through Williamsburg and noticed hardly any meters on Bedford, Lee and other well-traveled streets. You? Love one another.
