New York, NY – As many as one in four parking placards currently used by motorists in New York City are fake, according to a new study by transportation advocates, and city lawmakers are latching onto the report to push for tougher enforcements.

Currently, there are 78,000 valid parking placards distributed by various authorities in the city. The president of Transportation Alternatives, Paul Steeley White, said his group suveyed six neighborhoods, and out of 1,450 permits found, 343 were fake. “That means that between 10,000 and 25,000 fake permits are used regularly in the city,” White said.
That’s more than the 12,000 yellow taxi cabs currently on the road here, he noted.
Boy am I amazed that these stupid elected officials have a press conference for a report and findings by Transportation Alternative, this is the group that has put out phony reports on bike lanes and how many bikers use the bike lanes.
TA started lying and posting false reports in Williamsburg/Greenpoint and they continued to Manhattan and came back with even more lies on Prospect park SW where they are now being sued, TA wants to get even with motorists so they came up with a number of false permits.
TA are phonies and fabricate reports, and the elected officials who stand with them and by their report, are SCHMUCKS
How many times did i get a summons because my neighbors have hanicapped placards on their window and the Sanitation can not clean the street and i got ticketed for not cleaning 18 inches into the curb…Everyone who has a parent or a friend disabled gets 10 copies for the family members to take them to the doctor or medical facility…Those same people have their parent use access-a-ride to take them (on taxpayers expense) to doctors and then the children have a free ride…

i gotta tell you something. the bike issue is getting very scary. today i saw one of those little motorized bikes with an adult and two children on it. no license , no registration. i also saw an old fashioned bike this morning with what looked like a huge rubbermaid bucket in the back with two children in it.
g-d forbid if a bike with kids gets hit these children are sitting ducks. they ahve zero protection. car seats are madatory in a car but nothing for the child on a bike? someone better change this rule before the first child dies, not when its alrady happened. g-d forbid
