I’m sure the regular posters will object on moral grounds but since I have ties to that area and friends who live there year round I hope that finally someone succeeds in bringing new employment opportunities there. If this deal goes the same way that every other great idea in Sullivan has, somehow the county or the federal government will find a way stop it from becoming a reality. The folks in Sullivan County have a unique talent for taking good ideas and beating them to death with endless debates and in fighting.

Allan, I could not agree more.

Today tens of thousands of NYers are spending hundreds of millions of dollars in casinos in CT and NJ. Why? All that money could be paying salaries at a spectacular entertainment and gaming complex in Sullivan County.

It is high-time that the liberals get down off their high horse and realize that business is business, and people WANT gaming options closer to home. Period.

For those who have gambling addictions, you certainly have my sympathy, but let’s face it…. there is no shortage of buses to Foxwoods/Mohegan Sun and no shortage of illegal poker rooms near you already. If you have a gambling problem, you will have a gambling problem whether the casino is down the street or 2 hours away.

You cannot create jobs by DENYING the purchasing public what they are asking for.

My best suggestion would be. Instead of the Bucharim and the Yingalatt running back and forth to the casino. We should vote for a Yeshiva and a Bais Hamedrish on the premises.

To all those who have commented on other articles how awful this will be, have you been to the Catskills recently? If you have, you’ll notice that there is a big problem there. There are absolutely no jobs. All the storefronts on the “big streets” are shuttered. You can’t go anywhere safely at night because the streets are empty of any activity except muggers and drug dealers. Bungalow colonies get ripped off every winter when people steal copper pipes from the houses. There is a problem in the Catskills and it needs a solution, any solution. The main employers – WalMart and Home Depot are seasonal as well, and have very small staff during the winter. A Casino will create jobs. If you can come up with a better idea for year round employment for these people, propose it. Otherwise please stop the doom and gloom.

#5 you are so right. Broadway in Monticello looks like a ghost town. I would vote for it given the chance.

We need jobs here in the city, so why not a few casino’s here in the city.
