The event will take place at 8:30 PM at the ParCare Health and Medical Center at 445 Park Avenue and will address causes, symptoms, diagnosis of these diseases and the effects of diet and stress on these conditions. Featured speakers will be Gastroenterologist Dr. Jeffrey Ben-Zvi, Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at Columbia University and Certified Nutritionist Eliezer Gruber.

The Jewish Crohn’s and Colitis Support was founded in 2010 by a group of sufferers with the goal of educating the Orthodox Jewish community about these chronic and, as yet, uncurable condition, which if left untreated can lead to life threatening complications.

“Because a cure for these conditions is not yet known, one has to learn how to live with the complications that occur with the disease,” said Joel, founder and executive director of the Jewish Crohns and Colitis Suport Group. “Support groups are important for those suffering from this painful condition. It is so easy to feel all alone, but our support group has already made a difference for many sufferers.”

For more information contact the Jewish Crohn’s and Colitis Support group at 347-450-0274 or at [email protected].

I know many people who suffer from Colitis, I congratulate the Askanim and ParCare for coming to the forefront and attacking this silent disease that many Ashkenazi jews are suffering according to studies more then the general population.

There was a wonderful Radiolab episode on parasites and how purposely infecting yourself with hookworm could/does dramatically reduce allergy, ulcerative colitis, and crohn’s symptoms. Wonder what the halachic implications of purposely exposing yourself to a live parasite are…

    This is great news!

I got a close friend who suffers on this for years! and he just ran from one doctor to another and didn’t know what to do. There wasn’t any place to get some help or advice for this.

I hope this new organization will be successful and this event will bring good results.

BTW, I would like to know if they will have such a evening in BP too.
