The agency has been at work on a confidential plan to raise tolls since last year — and has gotten a green light from New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a source said.

PA sources said they believe they can convince Gov. Cuomo to go along because. Both governors would have to approve a hike.

Besides raising the top toll for cars — which is the same whether it’s paid with cash or an E-ZPass — the rates for hours when E-ZPass discounts are in effect are also expected to go up.

Truck tolls are also expected to increase.

The agency runs the George Washington Bridge and Lincoln and Holland tunnels as well as the Goethals and Bayonne bridges and the Outerbridge Crossing.

The same tolls apply on all six crossings.

The biggest financial drains have been the growing expense of rebuilding the World Trade Center.

It’s becoming too expensive for the average person to continue to live in the NYC metropolitan area. We are getting hit from all sides, including the price gouging of kosher consumers. We went shopping yesterday for Shavuos and meats have now increased about 30% over what they were just a couple of months ago.

Sure, nickel and dime us some more for your own failed and over-budget projects. Anyone want to hazard a guess as to what the average commuter tolls are for anywhere else in the country?

    OMG!!
with such high gas prices plus a 25% toll hike, a round trip to the catskills would cost me close to $100.00. during the summer season i travel about 10 times back and forth, which will add up to $1,000 for gas and tolls only.
maybe we should make a yom tfilah

How’s about some public accountability of where all the revenue from tolls go, how it’s spent etc….

Motorists must understand (no matter where they live in the USA) that if one owns a car, it is going to cost money (gas, oil, maintenance, insurance, parking fees, tolls, registration). The days of inexpensive automobile operation are long gone.

CBS radio in NYC is reporting that Governor Christie has not given his approval for any increases. They said that the first he heard of an increase was on the radio news…something is missing from this story…maybe the truth.

We should get all commuters to take mass trans for a week, and show them
