New York, NY – A unique campaign to keep Galid Shalit’s captivity in the media spotlight has managed to raise the necessary funds to put Shalit’s image on a midtown Manhattan. Gal Sitty, the 28 year old California man who spearheaded the project, reports that approximately $6,000 in donations were received since news of the proposed billboard was reported on VIN News just two weeks ago.

“The Vos Iz Neias article (posted May 25) definitely gave us greater exposure and brought more people and donations to the cause,” said Sitty in an exclusive interview with VIN News.

The billboard, bearing the message “Free Gilad Shalit” shows an image of Shalitm dressed in civilian attire, with the words “I was kidnapped by Hamas on June 25, 2006…I have been held captive for 1,785 days and counting…This summer I will turn 25 years old…where did you spend your birthday this year?”. It is expected to go up sometime within the next seven to fourteen days, coinciding with the fifth anniversary of Shalit’s captivity and remain at the site for a period of one month. The billboard will most likely be located on 10th Avenue and 34th Street, a location which receives 300,000 views per week.

“We are very, very happy to see all the support coming in,” said Sitty. “With everyone rallying behind this it can really help keep the pressure on to take more diplomatic effort to secure his release. We need to send the message that this kind of behavior, using people as political pawns is completely unacceptable and won’t work.”

A total of $10,146 was raised in this campaign and Sitty is already formulating more plans to keep Gilad Shalit in the public eye. He hopes to be in New York at the billboard for the upcoming June 25th anniversary.
