“He’s not fit to be our congressman,” said Jim Scott, 61, one of about two dozen constituents who rallied in front of Weiner’s office in the Kew Gardens section of Queens. “People are sick of him, especially his attitude.”

Weiner said Saturday that instead of resigning over the scandal, he was seeking professional treatment and asking for a leave of absence from Congress.

Scott held a sign that said: “Weiner must resign today, today! Rehab tomorrow.”

Jane Deacy, 60, a Republican district leader, called Weiner an embarrassment. “This is a sideshow,” she said.

Half a dozen Weiner supporters gathered a few yards away.

James Sideris held up a sign saying, “Weiner Should Not Quit!” He quickly got into a shouting match with Weiner opponents.

College student Olivia Lurrie, 18, said Weiner was a good leader who made a mistake. She argued with Len Santoro, a 40-year-old information technology worker who said it was impossible for anyone to take the congressman seriously now.

“It doesn’t matter if I agree with him on the issues,” Santoro said. “He can’t lead.”

Weiner’s Ninth Congressional District spans parts of Brooklyn and Queens.

The truth is he was never fit to be a congressman, and he should never have been voted in to begin with. It’s about time New Yorkers wake up and realize that voting for corrupt politicians is not the way to go!! We need leaders who are responsible and accountable!!

Oy, a fine mess he’s gotten himself into. What is it with these bozos who behave like immature hormone-charged teenyboppers? If they don’t know that the time to contemplate the risks of their actions is before engaging in them, not after, then they are truly unfit to lead. Yet AW can’t be blamed for turning a deaf ear to calls for his resignation when so many before him stayed put – despite antics that make Weiner’s pale in comparison.

And yet they all voted for Clinton and his issue with libido didn’t impede his ability to govern. They voted in Spitzer, who saw it all from Room 9 in D.C. They voted in a whole mess of others. Be real, they just all want to be Weiner and haven’t got the six pack abs, but the 60 pack from beer, chulent, and watching it all play out on the boob tube.
