New York – NY Times: Gay Marriage Vote By End Of Week; In Reversal, 3 Democratic Senators Will Vote Yes

    19

New York – Three wavering Democratic lawmakers in the State Senate have agreed to support legislation legalizing same-sex marriage in New York, several people with knowledge of the negotiations said on Monday, marking a potential turning point for the long-debated measure.

The three senators — Joseph P. Addabbo Jr. and Shirley L. Huntley of Queens and Carl Kruger of Brooklyn — all voted against the measure in 2009, when it failed by a wide margin. Their switch to the yes column leaves all but one Senate Democrat supporting same-sex marriage — and the fate of the legislation in the hands of the Republican majority in the chamber.

Three Republican senators will now have to vote for same-sex marriage if the measure is to pass in the 62-member chamber. The lone Democrat now opposing the measure, Rubén Díaz Sr., is the Senate’s most vocal opponent of same-sex marriage and is not considered swayable under any circumstances.

The State Assembly, which is controlled by Democrats, has repeatedly passed the measure.

If the legislation passes, New York will become the sixth and biggest state in the nation to allow gays to wed.

Republican senators voted unanimously against same-sex marriage two years ago, but five have indicated in recent weeks that they are undecided. Speaking with reporters on Monday, Dean G. Skelos, the Senate majority leader, said that if a same-sex marriage bill came to the floor, each Republican senator would be free to vote his or her conscience, but he added that he had not formally asked his members where they stood.

I understand that according to the Torah it is assur for one to act on gay tendencies, but legalizing gay marriage is not going to change the fact that either way those who are already acting on gay tendencies will continue to do so. I never understood what all the fuss is about. Gays will be gay regardless of whether getting married is legal or not.

    To #1

The decree of the Mabul was sealed when the generation legalized gay marriage. What people choose to do in violation of the Noahide Laws and the Torah is between them and G-d, but to legalize it is another story entirely.

Immediately call N.Y. Senate telephone operator at 5180455-2800 who will connect you to Senator Skelos. Tell him to insist that all Republicans vote ‘NO’! Give operator your ZIP code & be connected to your State Senator. Tell him/her to vote ‘NO’ too!
Rabbi Avigdor Miller ZT”L said that if this bill passes, it is the beginning of the end.

If gay marriage is sanctioned, that’s giving the forbidden act a stamp of approval. Your post makes no sense, whatsoever.

The more you “normalize” this kind of behavior, the more it makes the young venerable to this Yetzer Harah!

I’ll still be surprised if this passes this year: Republicans are still afraid of being Primaried.

Good. Jewish men don’t marry Jewish men, and Jewish women don’t marry Jewish women because it’s against our religion. Non-religious men and women shouldn’t be forced to follow our religion’s dictates any more than we should be forced to follow Sharia, Catholic Canon Law or any other religion’s dictates.

The Gemorah says that the only zchus the Amei Oilem have is that they don’t sanction marriage between men. This too is now over. On another note, consenting adults and all, and “who are you to tell me whom I can marry?” why can’t I march in with my mother & son (over 18 of course), and call our threesome a marriage? Hypocrites.
