Brooklyn, NY – Seared by scandal, New York Rep. Anthony Weiner announced his resignation from Congress on Thursday, done in by lewd photos he took of himself, sent online and then adamantly lied about after being caught.

“I’m here today to again apologize for the personal mistakes I have made and the embarrassment I have caused,” he said reading from a brief statement in Brooklyn.
“I make this apology to my neighbors and my constituents, but I make it particularly to my wife, Huma.”
Weiner’s wife was absent as he announced his decision.
Weiner said he had hoped to remain in Congress but conceded his predicament had made that impossible. Instead, he said he would resign “so my colleagues can get back to work, my neighbors can choose a new representative and, most importantly, that my wife and I can continue to heal from the damage I have caused.”
In part, that echoed what party leaders have said for days as they pressured him to resign so Democrats could resume positioning themselves for the 2012 election campaign without constant criticism from Republicans on moral grounds.
Dont let the door hit you on the way out you fool!
Now that your leaving, we all couldn’t care less. Be an anonymous lowlife, sleeze. You are a joke. First you do sick things. Then you lie about them. Then you say you won’t quit. Then you go to treatment!? Then you do quit. You should have just quit and saved yourself the added embarrassment.
A powerful lesson for all, young and old – but especially for the young: Actions have consequences. That said, I feel for the guy and his wife. And certainly, like I’ve said before, others before him with worse sins got away with it.
If Clinton didn’t resign ,why should Weiner? And, what Clinton did was far worse!
I heard he’s gonna sign an endorsement deal with Oscar Meyer….
When Rav Lopian ztl heard a tape made of a shiur he give, he changed his whole approach to his shiurim–and learned a lesson in mussar about the “Ozen Shoma’at.” We learn in Pirkei Avot about the Eye Above and the Ear Above that constantly record our behavior. This case is an object lesson in the danger of ignoring such phenomena.
To 4: the reason why Clinton didn’t had to resign is because he stuck to the lies and didn’t change stories. He had a full plan and followed it. Vs. Wiener being the bigshot of town jumped right to the mic and talked like a foul without asking advice from anybody. There should have been a period of a day or two where the media should have this common line “we were unable to get comments from the congressman” which is the tme when you go to advisers on how to act.
Go in good health.
