Someone broke into the Chabad Palm Beach Synagogue and stole a special donation box that contained a $1 bill that was blessed by a rabbi who died a few years ago.

“To the thief it’s not worth anything — no more than just $1,” Rabbi Shlomo Ezagui said. “It’s like a (Pablo) Picasso painting. You know, to a thief it’s just a piece of canvas. But to somebody who appreciates art, it may be worth millions of dollars.”

In the early 90s I had the zechus of meeting the Lubavitcher Rebbe and he gave me a dollar. Is there any chance that the shul would buy mine or is there something extra special about their stolen dollar?

Thank you! without the (Pablo) I would have thought you were talking about Pablo’s cousin, Gary Picasso, and his world-renown paintings.

Which rebbe was niftar “a few years ago” such that his one dollar “mazal” bill would now be worth $1,000 to a chabadnik.

One of my biggest regrets is that I never had the honor to meet the Lubavitcher Rebbe and get that dollar. I kept putting it off until it was too late. Life lesson learned here.

Fuhgeddaboudit… dollar’s long been spent. And if by slim chance it hasn’t, now that the thief’s been told that “it may be worth millions of dollars,” he may try to get his dollar’s worth…

I’d just like to ask of the bloggers here no to turn this in to a “I thought the rebbe never died mockery” (as some posters already have)….

Most of lubavitch (which btw I’m not a part of) are decent NORMAL people. There are a couple of hundred (maybe) nuts out there who do not represent the average lubavitcher..

So please let’s try and act like grown ups…

If the dollar was stolen it was supposed to be stolen, Yasher Koach on having it in your shul so that it may fall into the thief’s hands

    I’d rather get a cursed $100 bill than a blessed $1 bill

To all above posters: Thank you for the best laughing fit I’ve had all week. You guys are truly funny – both the ones who meant to be funny, and even those who didn’t. Watching you all interact with one another (Elvis sightings, cursed $100, Gary Picasso) is HILARIOUS! Any of you guys writers for late night TV?

to 16 and 17-if you want to teach people about the rebbe, you don’t do it by insuling them.this should be selfunderstood.

Usually, we marked these dollars in the margin. Hopefully, Rabbi Ezagui did the same and the yukel who stole it spent it in the area. A few have been returned after thefts that way.
