Jerusalem – A majority of Israeli lawmakers are asking the U.S. administration to allow the incarcerated Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard a humanitarian visit with his dying father.

Pollard was a civilian intelligence analyst for the Navy. He pleaded guilty in 1986 of passing classified information to Israel and was given a life sentence.

The letter is signed by 71 of Israel’s 120 members of parliament. It’s addressed to Vice President Joe Biden in his role as president of the U.S. Senate.

In it, lawmaker Nachman Shai says the request was an “urgent humanitarian matter” to allow Pollard see his father a final time.

Shai said Friday it was unrelated to calls for Pollard’s release.

Israeli leaders and some former high-ranking American officials have called for Pollard to be freed.

EY should not be wasting its scarce political chits for Pollard-related issues–either a pardon or short-term release for medical visitation. There is little sympathy for a convicted spy in Congress or the Administration. Concentrate on important national strategic issues.

To show you how crazy this world is – the man who shot Reagan in 1981 is allowed to go home at nights and is getting married soon, but Pollard is locked up tight.

He’s a Jew, He’s in jail, its a simple mitzvah of pidyion shvuim!

If our basic principles are not as important and it causes us to forget who we are, than what is the purpose of Eretz Yisroel?
And if we want the geula sheleima how can we ask hashem to reedem ALL OF US if we are not ready to redeem one?

He is a traitor to his country who caused a tremendous problem for innocent Jews. He is eligible for parole soon and he can wait.

Regarding Hinckley, he was found not guilty by reason of insanity. I believe now, as I did then, that Hinckley would have been convicted had the trial been held in a more conservative area (i.e. the South or the Midwest). Also, the two women would be assassins (Sara Jane Moore, who actually fired a shot a Pres. Ford, and Squeaky Fromme, who pulled a gun on Ford), were both paroled several years ago. In addition, Arthur Bremer, the individual who shot and permanently paralyzed former Gov. George Wallace was also paroled. Yet, Pollard is still being imprisoned, because he has essentially become a political pawn. He is being used by the Obama Administration as leverage against Netanyahu, and any future Israeli Government, pertaining to future concessions to the Arabs.
