Sherry Scott says after the water balloon hit the car, a man jumped out and chased her daughter, and then others went after her son and grandson. She says at one point, around 40 or 50 people were with them. Scott also claims she was barred from going back into her house and suffered injuries to her knee and back.

Police confirmed two people were arrested, but were unclear over what the charges were.

Scott says she is working with the NAACP and may sue.

    **UPDATE** 4:00 PM

Charedi publicist Yossi Gesternter says the media has the story wrong, see below his post on his blog:

Local media are reporting that an African America from Spring Valley NY may sue after her children were hit by Jews moments after – as she says – one of her children accidently threw a water balloon on a passing car. The stories suggest that the driver jumped out of the car, ran after an 11 year old and started hitting the kid. Soon, dozens of Jews joined in the attack.

This narrative is false. Here are the facts:

Wednesday June 15 at 10:45, a motorist took a turn off Monsey Blvd onto Fletcher in Spring Valley New York. The driver, a Jew, suddenly got physically hit by something that flew into his car through an open window. After swerving and then gaining controlling of his car, the driver pulled into a Parking Lot in the area and contacted Chaverim of Rockland; a volunteer service organization of the local Jewish Community. After arriving, the members noticed it was a water balloon that was thrown at the car. After speculating if it was a mistake or a dangerous game by some, Chaverim observed from a covert location that youngsters are indeed waiting alongside the road, inching for trouble. However, cars driven by non-Jews were not attacked until a Volunteer of Chaverim passed and his car was hit by water balloons and small stones too.

After observing this, the members contacted the Police Department and ran after the perpetrators to try identify them for PD. Not wanting to physically hold down a minor and be subject to chargers, a few Volunteers obstructed the entrance of a house in an effort to prevent the youngsters from disappearing inside. At the same time, many African Americans at the scene started pushing and shoving the Jews in an effort to permit the perpetrators – who obviously were not supervised by their parents – to enter inside, and thus make it difficult to hold them accountable. This caused a physical struggle between the sides. At the time the Police arrived, they charged one member of the Jewish community and ticked another one for this scuffle.

Based on media reports, the parent is working with the NAACP and considering suing. In the mean time, some locals – including myself who was raised in a single parent household – hope that instead of lawsuits, parents will spend time 1) keeping tabs on their youngsters at the night hours; 2) teaching them to not play dangerous games against motor vehicles, and 3) to give them an upbringing that does not cause them to racially distinguish between Jewish and non-Jewish drivers/people.

What would have been the reaction if a Jewish kid threw a water balloon that hit a car being driven by an African American?

NAACP??? Racially motivated????? She should tell her daughter not to throw water balloons onto a main road!!!! How about suing her for negligence because her daughter could have caused an accident. Throw balloons in the back yard.

I think it’s horrible what happened, but I think it’s kinda ridiculous to involve the NAACP. They would have acted that way no matter if she was Black, Hispanic, etc. as long as she wasn’t frum

Those water balloons tossed “by mistake” are dangerous. I was almost in a crash when a large balloon full of water landed on my windshield last year in SV.

This story is so obvious, her kid started up and then when people defended themselves her lies began. Yes, when anything hits a moving car the driver can be shocked, swerve and have an accident. Let me see the local POLICE prosecute this child and give the mother what to worry about.

Accidentally tossed a water balloon at a car? How is that possible to do? The kid was obviously looking for trouble and she got what she was asking for.

let her sue, then counter-sue her for attacking the car in the first place.
let a Yid throw a waterballoon at a black person’s car on Martin Luther King Blvd (name your own city/state……its all the same) and see what happens-The car would be turned over and a riot would start with looting and burning down storefronts, etc.

I was driving in a Jewish neighborhood when some a Jewish kids standing at the curb with one of those big water shooters was shpritzing everyone (Jewish) who drove by. Should I have stopped driving jumped out of my car and give him a talking to?

Although I believe their is gross exageration to this story, I also believe there are better ways to deal with things. Here is the point: We need to resolve all our grievances in an assertive civilized manner. After all, we are the people of the book. We don’t get to respond in the same manner as they would.

Nebech, so this little girl was walking down the street holding a water baloon. She had filled this little baloon up with water from a public bathroom, as poverty had caused the water in her house to be turned off. As she was walking, she looked down and noticed her ripped sandals. “oh,” she thought to herself “if only I had sandlas that were not torn.” Alas, thus is the plight of the poor. Bolstering herself up with the thought that she would soon be able to wash her hair, she clutched the little baloon to her chest and shuffled homeward. With a sudden force, she was thrown forward. Without her noticing it, her ripped sandal became caught on a large rock. As she was being propelled forward, the baloon slipped out of her hands and flew into the street where it landed upon the car. Suddenly she was beset upon many men who were accusing her of throwing the balloon at the car……………….

Do you think they will use this story to defent her in court? I’m thinking it’s very realistic.

Chaverim were the ones there, I think to a certain extend its a chillul hashem the police should have been called, instead of chaverim volunteers holding down these boys.

Well folks, welcome to Ramapo where tensions are very high and nearly at a melting point. It gets worse by the day. Our once peaceful Town is getting ready to implode. Sad.

“She says at one point, around 40 or 50 people were with them.”
This looks like a quiet condominium complex. This is not 13th Avenue in Boro Park. How did 40 or 50 people suddenly materialize? I find it very hard to believe that such a big crowd gathered so quickly to help the driver “attack” this family. So if this little detail is completely false or highly exaggerated, how much of this story is actually true?

balloon and rock throwing at cars is extremely dangerous, the kids are very lucky they werent hit by the car that they nearly caused an accident. let them go to a park or backyard and have safe fun there.

The Chaverim had no right to go on to private property and attempt to block these kids from entering the house. They should have taken photos and reported the incident to police.
Unless they have been deputized by the local police they are at risk of being sued for assualt and tresspass by the adults who they engaged with.

The mother is not unemployed and she works in the clerks office in Spring Valley. She is a respected citizen who hands out welfare checks to the same chasids who assalted her. In order to work for the City of Spring Valley, one must pass a drug and background check.

gee I wonder what would happen to me and my kids (white, obviously not one of that community, son 17 yo, long heavy metal type hair, 6foot, daughter 14 in her t shirts, shorts and gladiator sandals) if we ventured into New Square. Ya think we would be welcomed with open arms? How long would it take before a crown gathered wondering what us “outsiders” were doing in their community? Anybody want to take a guess at what the people of lovely New Square would do?

The Talmud in Sanhedrin and the Rambam saids any Non-Jew who threatens or hits a Jew receives death through the hands of Heaven (this means their life span will be shortened by Hashem) because they insulted Hashem by hurting His people. Look at the tale of two neighborhoods. Crown Heights and Williamsburg. In the 60’s and 70’s, the Williamsburgers, many who survived the Holocaust when they caught a mugger who asaulted a Jew would have a few hundred people dance on the guy’s face and then throw him off the overpass onto the BQE and he would become road kill. This is why it is so safe in Williamsburg today. In Crown Heights they depeneded on the police to protect them and the famous Crown Heights riots lasted for a few days. The police did nothing to stop the riots because they fear the Blacks. In Israel, small Palistinian kids were strapped with bombs and have blown Jews up. Small terrorists grow up to be big terrorists. I could go on and on but you get my point, or do you?

The man who called Chaverim is beyond ridiculous. Chassidim children are constantly unsupervised and throw things at cars noone bothers to call 911 on them.
