Paris – Capable of soaring above the atmosphere at 3,125 mph on biofuel made from seaweed, EADS’s proposed Zero Emission Hypersonic Transportation (ZEHST) could significantly reduce air travel time. The usual eight-hour flight from New York to London would take one, less than half the time it took the old Concorde.

Whereas the the Concorde failed because of its extremely noisy takeoffs and landings, expensive tickets, outdated cockpits and high maintenance checks, the ZEHST will be “one of the world’s most eco-friendly aircraft” thanks to its use of seaweed biofuel.
Packed with rocket engines for shooting the aircraft above the atmosphere, ramjet engines for Mach 4 cruising speeds and conventional jet engines to ensure “quiet” take-offs and landings, the ZEHST should be ready in…*wait for it*…40 years.
Why 40 years?
So instead of going to the Mountains, will go to London for summer.
If I buy a ticket now…..can I get a good discount?
Please. This is literally a “paper airplane”. Hypersonic flight is 10 – 20 years in the future. The US just did two flight tests: one of them was marginal, the other failed. The Europeans haven’t done a single flight test yet.
All great mechanical and engineering advances have been made by people of vision, of which there have been a paucity of late. Do you think that Wilbur and Orville expected to make the Wright Flyer in just a few years?

So in one night I’ll be able to go to a chasina in Stamford Hill or Golders Green, and then back to Ateres Chynka for a quick Mazel Tov, and actually show up for work the next day on time. Amazing!
It will never be built.
The “flight” proposed here will be sub-orbital. Basically, the craft takes off like a plane but accelerates upward in a rocket-like trajectory, out of the atmosphere. This will be quite a thrill-ride for the space enthusiast!
Then again…
“…rocket engines for shooting the aircraft above the atmosphere, ramjet engines for Mach 4 cruising speeds and conventional jet engines to ensure “quiet” take-offs and landings…”
That is a huge amount of “dead weight” to shoot out into the black. Run it on seaweed, LOX or gossamer this thing is going to be expensive to operate.
so basicly, the longest part of traveling to europe will now be getting to the airport!
I prefer Kefitzat HaDerech in the days of Tanach.
So on a flight to London budget yourself 3 hours, 2 hours for the ride to and from the airports, and 1 hour the actual flight.
40 years ? i think i rather go with the current 8 hours !
thanks but id rather wait for the star treck beam me down scotty then this plane i think in 40 years will have that to:).
Will it fly to London only? How about ghetting to Eretz Yisroel in 1 1/2 hour. Works for me.
In 40 years I expect to have my own personal jetpack that flies me to wherever I want.
Too bad the 6 million kedushim didn’t have a plane like this to escape the satanic europeans.
