Weiner, who was undone by his scandal, officially notified Speaker John Boehner and New York state officials Monday. The resignation letter was to be read on the House floor Tuesday, his last day in Congress.

He announced last Thursday that he would step down.

Weiner, elected in 1998, said it had been “an honor to serve the people of Queens and Brooklyn.”

His congressional staff will report to the House clerk until a new representative is elected. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo could call for a special election anytime in the coming weeks.
