Las Vegas, NV – Police say a 19-year-old from New York City who died in a fall from the 10th floor of a Las Vegas Strip resort parking structure might have been trying to take a photo of the Las Vegas skyline.

The Clark County coroner’s office on Monday identified the dead man as Eli Tormheim of Brooklyn, N.Y.
Las Vegas police Officer Laura Meltzer says investigators determined that Tormheim’s fall a little after 7 p.m. Sunday at the Venetian Hotel & Casino was an accident.
Authorities say Tormheim was taken by ambulance to University Medical Center in Las Vegas, where he was pronounced dead.
My heart breaks for the young man and his family.
I remember being that age and taking risks that, in retrospect, could have landed me in the hospital, or worse. Why are some of us spared, while others meet their end too soon? May Eli’s family find comfort in the good memories they share of their son and brother.

To #5 - You don’t know what you are talking about. I know frum Yidden who travel to Las Vegas on business. There are plenty of kosher establishments there, and the Jewish community of Las Vegas has increased four times over in the last 15 years. The Jewish community now numbers close to 100,000. You cannot tell me that all of them are not torah observant Jews.

Both sides are correct. Accidents can happen anywhere to anyone. On the other hand, gambling (and this young man may not have been in LV to gamble) is out of hand in the frum community from guys jumping into a car to hit Atlantic City to junkets to Las Vegas and Indian casinos. Money is too scarce nowadays for such nonsense (and I know many of these guys and many are not wealthy).
There happen to also be people who go to Las Vegas for the shows (not that this isn’t a problem as well) and for the art gallery at the Bellagio, the gondola rides, etc.
