Miramar, FL – Starting this fall passengers on Spirit Airlines will have to pay an additional five dollars if they pick their boarding pass up from the ticket agent at the gate.

The Miramar based carrier, which is the only U.S. airline to charge for carry-on luggage, said the new boarding pass fee will go into effect on November 1st. Passengers can avoid the fee by printing the boarding pass at home, or by using a check-in kiosk at the airport. However, in June 2012 there will be a new fee of one dollar for passengers who print out their boarding passes at the kiosks.
In addition to the new boarding pass fees, Spirit also announced that was it’s lowering fares by $5 each way.
I will never fly Spirit Airlines. Once they started nickel and diming for everything I realized that it was cheaper to fly with Delta and American Airlines.
FYI….
Spirit also charges you for your seat….
this charge is on top of the air fare. the closer the row is to the front of the plane, the more expensive it is. But they even charge for the LAST row of the plane
So the question is, at what point do the consumers tell them to go take a flying leap?
What next – will they start charging you a rental fee to use the seat belts??
This airline is an absolute joke. You pay for an uncomfortable trip, and they tack on additional fees (really outrageous ones) for every single thing. Soon every inhale will cost extra. I have refused to fly with them following a really horrific experience. I hope they nickel and dime their way to bankruptcy.
To #4 - You forgot to mention that they may also charge passengers to use the lavatory.
That’s what a free market is all about. The management of Spirit Airlines is unapologetic about providing the lowest base fare. Any other service costs money.
If you don’t want to pay for your water or boarding pass, there are other airlines who will be happy to include it in the cost of a higher fare. The choice is clearly yours,
They are asking their passengers to do it online from home or use the check in computer at the airport. if you are on VIn you could figure out how to check in online. Most people do this anyway to have less of a hassle or better control their seat selection.
I imagine that having less checkin personnel saves them labor costs and some rental fees for more check in desks, yes everything costs money at the airport.
I can see it now an emergency G-d forbid and the captain says please deposit $1.00 to access the Oxygen masks……….
Clearly none of you have ever flown with RyanAir – an Irish-based loco airline operating in Europe. Its passengers are even charged for using the onboard בית שימוש
Are they still in business? do people really still fly with them? do people really fall for there gimmicks? I wouldn’t fly Spirit even if they they pay me. I flew Spirit once and boy did I have a bad trip. The worst service in the world, stewardess are horrible (Looks like minimum wage employees) overpriced on everything like food, drinks, earphones, pillows, luggage. E.T.C and now boarding pass? not with me I would rather pay the 20 – 30 dollars more per ticket through Jet Blue.
i think your all forgetting – they are always delayed……and if you miss your check in time – usually close check in abt 40min prior to schedule you loose your ticket and have to purchase a new one…it is a stupid airline – they only have one flight a day to and from dtw….
My mother just flew 2 weeks ago from FLL to BOS. Coffee was $2, refills were free.
When she asked for a cup of water, she was told it was $2. She said that she wanted just a bit of water in her coffee cup. The flight attendant looked around and then put ice in her cup and suggested that she wait until it melted/
BTW, it took 8 steps to book the ticket once the decision was made. I can’t stand the nickel and diming.
