In the petition, which was received by the East Ramapo Board of Education on Monday, Brenda Carole Anderson, of Wesley Hills, charges that the district did not sell the school at market value.

The school board voted 5-2 on May 25 to sell the school for $6.6 million to the Bais Malka/Hebrew Academy for Special Children, which currently holds the $3.8 million, five-year building lease.

The school and the 15-acre property on Grandview Avenue was assessed at $11,962,569 by the town of Ramapo last July.

They should stop the sale until and independent assessment is prepared of fair market value. Taxpayer property should not be sold at below market value either to yiddeshe or goiyeshe mosdos.

If she’s basing it on the assessment, this is a joke.

Rediculous. As anyone in realestate will tell you, assessed value has nothing to do with market value. The thing is a white elephant – it has no use other than as a school, and the only market in the area are the frum schools – no one else is buying. Which school in Monsey is ready to plop $11,000,000 on a school building?

I would bet that if you put the building up for auction you wouldn’t get even the $6.6 million from anyone else.

I don’t understand when the school is used as public school and its given for free to them than its no issue but when its given to yiddishe school where the school program need to provide schools and buses etc for free than why is it an issue….. I think the least the school board could give to us is the building

The building was built mainly from yiddish tax dollars yet out schools and yeshivos are struggling for buildings while they get science labs computer labs gardens pools and more. Give us a break

This is the same old issue that the fry have with the frum, it has nothing to do with $. If the yeshiva was paying $20 mill, there would be another reason why they wouldn’t want the sale. They can’t get used to the demigrafic changes going on in ERSD , once the largest school district in rockland slowly disappearing

Several years ago, the Lawrence school district put a school on Central Avenue on the market. Lots of frum people were saying it should be sold to a Jewish school. It ended up being sold to a condo developer for a lot more than any school’s bid. It’s the fiduciary responsibility of the district to get as much money as possible when they dispose of property.

    “most kids in school Dont”

I would say that you are quite correct in saying that. In fact, I would go so far as to say that not a single child in Dutchess County pays a single red cent in taxation.
