Paris – Prosecutors Ask For $14,400 Fine in Anti-Semitic Remark Case

    Galliano testified during his one-day trial Wednesday that he remembers nothing because addictions to alcohol, barbiturates and sleeping pills. He apologized for an anti-Semitic diatribe in a separate incident captured on video and posted on the Internet.

    A verdict is expected at a later date.

    First of all, who would be getting the money? Second, remembers or doesn’t remember, while inebriated, he spoke his mind – his true feelings which, in his condition, he was simply incapable of suppressing.

    should be required to go under classes against racial basis for 1 year

    This makes me uncomfortable– just like the whole Geert Wilders business. I’m not going to defend Galliano who, to be charitable, seems like a complete weirdo, but I think laws criminalizing speech are very bad policy. If he didn’t actively incite violence, then his words should only make him a sch___k, not a criminal.
