New York, NY – The Bloomberg administration is rejecting a slew of city council bills designed to make parking easier in New York City.

Among the proposals given a thumbs down by the administration was a bill sponsored by council member James Vacca to force ticket issuers to take a picture of the offense for which the summons is being written.

“We get $600 million a year from traffic enforcement tickets but the city is judge and jury,” said Vacca. “Those pictures would go a long way, many tickets would not be issued if the enforcement agents had to take a picture of the offense, many people would be able to prove their innocence.”

The police department argues ticket agents could be endangered by having to take some snapshots and says taking other pictures could be made impossible by darkness or weather.

Another proposals would prohibit any late fees on parking tickets until 30 days after a final judgment.

Meanwhile, the city’s Department of Transportation believes it has already done a lot to improve parking in the city from the increased use of the muni-meter system to making it easier to resolve summons online, still many believe the city can do more.

Where is david greenfeld on this issue? This issue is more relevant to us than any other bills he proposed. How come we don’t see him fighting for us and backing this bill. This bill is common sense and should have the backing of every normal councilman.

It’s almost impossible to win in these matters. This is a major source of revenue and the current administration will keep it that way.

whats wrong with this local politicians?
they cant figuer out its not about justice, its about getting all cars off the NY streets and raising as much possible $$$ as bloomberg possibly can!

Why should tickets be Guilty until proven innocent? Why do I have to prove I am not guilty. You prove that I am. This should be a constitutional question?

    What a outrage!
#1st. If Bloomberg equipped them with the high tech scanners then let him find high tech cameras that can take good pictures in any weather condition (B&H I’m sure has them….)

#2 its so clear from the opposition that the city is officially seeing the ticket operation as a gotch ya and income operation rather then improving traffic and parking!
    When will this end????

This bill obviously will never pass under the bloomberg administration. They’ll never sign up for something that will cause them a revenue setback, right or wrong. can’t wait for the day this gelt freser will be driven out of city hall.

In the last year I got out of two tickets because I took the pictures. If an agent would be taking pictures I would lose. So sorry but this time i agree with the mayor. Case #1 I was parked on a block with conflicting signs, since I was parked near the the sign which made me not legally parked a picture by an agent would work against me. Case # 2 I was parked in a no standing zone (trucks only) again with my pictures and a well written letter I got out of it. If an agent would take a picture I wouldn’t have a chance. Also this whole idea seems very impractical on some blocks there is only one sign, will the agent walk all the way down the block to take a picture, it dosen’t make sense.

very impractical? haha. apparently Yerushalmi traffic agents and cops have been using cameras to justify tickets since at least when I learned there 15 years ago! I believe it is commonly done in this impractical way in several cities worldwide. impractical or not, we all know the truth that NYC traffic tickets are guilty until proven innocent. and it is indeed shamful, and therefore nothing should stand in the way of improving justice. a 1 mp camera (ehich is all they need) can be baught for less than 50 bucks!

the traffic agents in brooklyn, are not pleasent to deal with and are heartless. I have many times where i have been trying to help someone and they issued me a ticket.
