New York – New York’s Senate, which holds the key to legalizing gay marriage in the state, plans to finally take up the issue after nearly a week of delays and constant, sometimes eardrum-rattling protests outside the chamber.

The Senate’s Republican majority is scheduled to meet behind closed doors at 10 a.m. then go into open session.
But a backlog of other more ordinary yet important bills for New Yorkers must be dealt with first. Printing the massive bills wasn’t expected to be done until after Friday morning.
Once those bills are passed, the Senate Republicans could start what would likely be a lengthy debate over the gay marriage bill in a closed-door caucus. They could then send the bill to the floor, or kill it.
I really hope they kill that bill. Hashem should protect us from those bills. It’s better tO live in NJ where it’s illegal.
Hopefully good sense will prevail and this bill will either not come up for a vote or if it does, get voted down. This bill is an attempt to re-write the order of human nature and human history. If anything, a civil partner bill should replace the marriage bill.
Refusing a vote is undemocratic. But then again, the fact that the Republicans even control the NY Senate at all is undemocratic! In the last redistricting, they systematically drew Republican districts that were smaller in population than Democratic districts. The Republicans should be able to defeat this on a free vote.

They should vote, and vote it down…then we will be free of the issue for at least four years. They can’t bring the same legislation up again in the same session or the next session if it’s voted down.
i still dont get what the big deal is if they pass the bill. it doesnt change anything how the frum community get married. no one is making you become gay and get married. it just gives them rights. you cant mix religion in with this.
#8  211; isnt that the reason why the bill has not been passed yet. they are working on clauses to prevent lawsuits from happening. once these clauses are in place that a hall/ bands/ ect can not be sued for not allowing a gay wedding- i see no reason what the big deal is. if a hall is ok to hosting a gay wedding -then they should be able to do so.
