Criminalologists and mental health workers often discuss the possibility of “copy-cat”crimes- chas veshalom- after such a trajic incident-.
As a result- a massive community (not government programs) effort should be put underway to place secured and functioning video-cameras all-over Boro-Park.On every block if possible-and manned by people at a center constantly viewing the
region.Signs in several languages should be posted around the area that it is a secured area under video surveillance, criminals will be apprehended and face the police ,courts, and prison. Also more Shomrim patrols should be activated.
If most families in BP and ,i am sure many outside the area ,would contribute to such an endeavor ,it could be in place in a short-time (if jewish politics is avoided),and well funded. The community would be calmer.
This may sound draconian or like “1984” ,but given the possibility , what’s the alternative ??

    (Reply to #1 ):
Your idea is very good, but must be accompanied by educating our parents and children about how to protect all kids against child predators. These vultures not only live next door to us, they teach in our schools, work in our camps, daven at our shuls, and would do ANYTHING to gain access to our children.

I don’t believe Leiby, a”h, approached Levi. I believe Levi spotted the lost child as he cruised the streets and approached the little boy.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

another idea. They should put Shomrim like AAA monitors on all corners like there are in other neighborhoods. maybe some heimishe woman that the children would trust. to make sure the children are not lost and that they cross the street safely.

I am haunted by the footage of the surveillance camera where little innocent Leiby is seen walking with his hand stretched out, lost! Asking for help and people are just too bz to pay attention… Thinking about it just makes me cry. So sad! His last walk to his terrible fate….
