Washington – U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer of New York says that if airlines don’t start reimbursing their rising fees when passengers’ bags are lost, he’ll introduce a bill to force the issue.

The Democrat says that under a new rule airlines would only have to reimburse their baggage fees if the luggage is lost forever. That rule is scheduled to take effect in August.

The fees range from $25 to $100.

Schumer tells The Associated Press that airlines should voluntarily refund the fees upon request to passengers when their checked bags don’t arrive when they do.

He says only a small fraction of lost bags are never returned. Most show up days later.

But if airlines don’t make the move, he says, he’ll introduce a bill to require the refunds

#1 not one airline has that sing showing the last bag has arrived #2 when your bag gets lost the airline refunds you upto $1000 on demedtic tickets and upto $3000 on international flight also depends on the airline but every airline give altleast $700 for a lost bag after 90 days of arrivel date if the bag is still not retuned. The system the airlines work with our bags are very sefisticated and a good way (the workers trow a lot our bags but exapt of that) and bags don’t get to much lost according to how many bags they handle a day for example american airlines handled in 2010 over 10 million bags but thay only had 5000 lost bag claims over 30 days
