New York – Orange County air has gotten another flunking grade for smog levels and slid from a "B" to a "C" for floating particle pollution, according to the latest air-quality report card by the American Lung Association.

The annual rating released today highlights an unsettling paradox for anyone who expects to breathe pure country air in Orange County: summertime levels of ozone — better known as smog — are sometimes as stifling in its bedroom communities as in more congested metropolitan areas.
Orange County was one of 10 New York counties to fail, ranking sixth worst out of 29 counties with ozone monitors.
Ulster's ozone grade improved from a "D" to a "C" in the latest report — following what the Lung Association describes as a positive ozone trend in the eastern United States.
There are no monitors in Sullivan or Rockland counties. [Record]
