Officer Paul Pizzuto, 40, submitted paperwork to his bosses at the 120th Precinct in Staten Island to justify overtime hours, but never gave the summonses to the motorists, authorities said.
“It was a phantom ticket,” a law enforcement source said of the summonses Pizzuto is accused of doling out to people who never knew they had been ticketed. “You never got a citation. You never got anything on your record.”
Pizzuto, a 17-year veteran, was caught writing at least 36 fake traffic tickets between March 11 and June 8, 2010, sources said.
Pizzuto’s bosses grew suspicious because he would file overtime hours, but never requested for time away from his beat to testify to the tickets in traffic court, the sources said. He was nabbed after an investigation by the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau.
Anybody surprised?
This officer is so dumb. You got dozens of people show up in court claiming they actually never got a ticket after receiving some type of letter by mail. And of course, all written by the same officer. And then what? How in the world did he think he’ll get away with this? Fire that crap!
Always interesting how the auditors catch the fraud.
