The Democrat says he’s talking to both sides of the issue, but hasn’t changed his view opposing the prescription use of marijuana.

In the week before his election in November, Cuomo said the dangers of legalizing marijuana even for medicinal use outweigh the benefits. Cuomo said then that he had smoked marijuana in his youth.

On Tuesday, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie approved that state’s medical marijuana program.

Democratic New York Sen. Diane Savino of Staten Island says New York must follow New Jersey’s lead to help patients of cancer, multiple sclerosis and other diseases.

Why let New Jersey earn all the fees and taxes from medical marijuana? New York is broke and will never cut our taxes. Better to collect taxes from the licensed users because the pushers run a cash business.

Almost all politicians admit to having smoked as a youth, yet they find it difficult to legalize it….go figure.

Having witnessed firsthand the relief that cannabis can offer those who R”L are suffering from advanced cancer, I commend Governor Cuomo. The halacha is unequivocal in its demand that we not only heal the sick, but we do everything possible to relieve their pain and suffering. For many people, traditional pharmaceuticals are ineffective in relieving pain from tumors and nausea from chemotherapy and radiation treatment. While the thought of erlicher yidden smoking a joint might be off-putting, please know that this is a last resort that, in many instances, is their only source of relief. Please take a moment to write to the governor and your state representatives and urge them to make this tool available to those who so badly need it.

No need to give medical marijuana in the form of a ‘joint’. It is available in pill form or can be sprinkled on food or baked into cookies etc. If smoking is not comfortable to the patient, the MM can be ingested in many ways.

Cannabis use causes psychosis in people who are prone to it, and causes lethargy and apathy in those who are not. We all know that “medical clinics” that sell this stuff see very few with a bona fide need, so why trade tax revenue for enabling a larger potential public health problem?

I’ve seen SECOND-hand the medical benefits. All the touted societal problems are often the result of “set it and forget it” parenting. The world has always been a messy place. Yes, kids (and some adults ) need constant supervision. That’s no reason to ban something that Hashem gave us for our benefit.
