New York, NY – The metropolitan area is under an excessive heat watch for Thursday afternoon through Friday evening — and forecasters predict temperatures will soar close to 100 degrees but the humidity will make that sweltering feeling even worse.

“With the combination of those temperatures and the increasing humidity, we’re expecting heat index values of up to 105 degrees Thursday afternoon, and up to 110 degrees on Friday afternoon,” said meteorologist John Murray, with the National Weather Service.

He’s urging New Yorkers to take serious precautions.

“Reschedule strenuous activities to the early morning or evening,” he said. “Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light-weight and loose-fitting clothing when possible. Drink plenty of water.”

Murray said the recent heat wave that hit the Midwest is now headed east. He predicts the high temperatures could ease up slightly on Sunday, with highs in the low 90s.

The city has opened cooling centers through Saturday. To find one near you, visit nyc.gov, or call 311.

No big deal…they’ve had these temps in the southwest and midwest going back to the middle of June. Just crank up the AC, have a cold schnapps on ice, learn a blat gemorah and buy ConEd stock.

OH VEH climate change. And when Cuomo shuts down Indain Point the city will not have enough electrical power or affordable power for the AC or the ice for the schnapps!

Check on an elderly or sick neighbor, offer the postman/woman something cold to drink ( I did today),offer the policeman/woman on foot patrol a cold drink as well as any fireman outside if there is an emergency ….simply put, think about those who could need a hand in this extreme heat.

Amazing how quickly people forget that a few short months ago we were dodging 7 foot high piles of snow and mocking global warming. Now it gets hot for a few days and suddenly everyone is a believer in global warming again…

Years ago, there used to be the ice man who would deliver ice during the summer.
