Hershy Itzkowitz, who was in running for the seat currently held by Gabriel Tenembaum, informed the district clerk today that he no longer would seek a seat on the school board, said board president Nathan Rothschild.
Tenembaum is not seeking re-election.
Rothschild said the district clerk called him to let him know since Rothschild had earlier called on several of the candidates to withdraw. Since the school district contains more students who attend private schools – generally Jewish yeshivas – than public school and the makeup of the school board has shifted in recent years from a majority of board members whose children attend public school to those whose children attend private schools.
“I feel strongly that a majority of the board is five and currently there are seven seats held by private school parents,” Rothschild said. “I don’t think we should be taking any more seats.” [The Journal News]
Isn’t the seat that Hershy Itzkowitz was running for, vacated by a non-public scholl board member?
548 you are 100% correct if he thinks there should be more goyim then let him put his money where his mouth is
Rothchild is a joke. If he thinks there are too many private school people, let him get off the board. He goes around as a private school person, then stabs the others in the back.
Nathan – RESIGN!!
