Khmelnitsky, Ukraine – Holocaust Memorial Vandalized

    Khmelnitsky, Ukraine – A Holocaust memorial was vandalized in western Ukraine. The mass grave in the town of Khmelnitsky was desecrated. The monument was established after World War II on the site of a Nazi wartime massacre of 8,000 Jews.

    Local Jewish activists cleaning the site discovered that the monument to Holocaust victims had been damaged and the plaque broken. The activists appealed to the town council to build a fence along the perimeter of the memorial. Police are investigating, but no progress has been reported. [JTA]

    What do you expect in the Ukraine? There isn’t a town in Ukraine that doesn’t have a Khmelnitsky Street or a Khmelnitsky square. There ia province Khmelnitsky with a capital Khmelnitsky. They are very proud of this Ukrainian hero Bogdan Khmelnitsky. He was a good Ukrainian. We jews remember him for Tach v’tot. Yimach shmo v’zichro.
