Judge William Garnett ordered that they pay full restitution of the stolen funds. In addition, each of them must pay a $1,000 fine and perform 150 hours of community service.
Mennashe and his wife Chana, both 34, were arrested in Brooklyn and charged with welfare fraud and grand larceny, for stealing Medicaid benefits.

Welfare investigators found that the couple lied to the city when they applied for and collected Medicaid benefits worth $10,865, reporting that their only income or resource was $1,000 a week earned by Mennashe, but he was making more money at his job.
The couple also owned a second home in Sullivan County that they failed to mention, and earned income from a Brooklyn rental property at South 8th St. [Brooklyn Eagle]

Why is it so difficult for so many of you to believe that people actually do live within the law and do not rip off the government or anyone else? I have never collected any social services, never food stamps, never welfare, never WIC, never lied on my tax returns, never stole what was not mine. I live within my means. So, if I want to judge someone for fraud and add my opinion, I have every right to. There is no excuse for fraud. A sick child is not an excuse. I hope more investigations take place. I’m tired of seeing my neighbors living above their means and flaunting it. I’ve been told I’m an idiot for not taking advantage of the “loop holes” in the system and not “fudging” my tax returns. I find it repulsive that so many people find this to be acceptable behavior.

You’d all better start planning your defense for when the RBS”O judges you the way you are judging these people.

Are you all so perfect or just sure that YOUR misdeeds will never be revealed and you will never be held accountable for them?

Being that you all know nothing about these people and what mitigating factors were at play you should all shut the Hell up and spend the time you waste here condeming other people on perfecting yourselves.

150 hours of community service. Wow. Does gaiyin noch gelt qualify? If it does he is in luck. You can rake in much more in 150 hours of schnorring than the $10,000 they managed to steal from the government.

Anon at 11:51am — Thanks, you just cracked me up!! You’re funny! Ever think of working to make a living? Oh, like they had no other choice. Greed, greed, and more greed, topped with entitlement issues.
The only thing they are entitled to here is the punishment they are getting. I believe they’re getting off pretty easily.

Stealing ten grand from the government is a shande. Doesn’t even buy a seat on mizrich vant. Now if it were $10 million we could start talking.

You’re all missing out on a wonderful opportunity to shut your mouths and not make fools of yourselves.
