A bill sponsored by state Assemblyman Kevin Cahill, D-Kingston, would prevent the governor from fast-tracking a casino within Ulster County, requiring county approval first.
The resolution before county lawmakers endorses the intent of Cahill's bill but further requires the consent of local municipalities.

The governor now has the authority to locate three casinos in Sullivan and Ulster counties without prior approval from the counties or municipalities.

But Elliott Auerbach, the Ellenville village manager, thinks Cahill's bill sends out an anti-casino message to potential developers. He wants a new piece of legislation that would require the governor to consult directly with the affected town, village or city. [Daily Freeman]
