Rockland County, NY - A Monsey man who pleaded guilty to a felony count of sexual abuse will serve up to six months in the county jail and will be registered as a sex offender with the state.

Arthur Grossman, 40, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Rockland County Court in New City to first-degree sexual abuse, officials at the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office said.

Grossman was arrested June 8, 2010, by Ramapo police, based on a complaint from Rockland Child Protective Services accusing him of improperly touching a child’s private parts over a period of several years. The child was younger than 8.

County Court Judge William A. Kelly ordered Grossman to serve 10 years’ probation following his release from jail, officials said.

Nor will a doctor. Pedophilia is almost impossible to cure short of surgery

It may not heal him, but sometimes fear of returning to jail will keep people from reoffending even when the impulse is not "healed." Science and medicine do not know how to "heal" most of these people.

Therapies for pedophilia include group therapy (said to have at most a 55% "cure" rate) and "chemical castration," i.e. giving medications to block testosterone (which some claim can result in a "cure" rate of about 90%).

The key issue, of course, is child safety (as is being emphasized by the Israeli rabbonim at a Yarchei Kallah on this very topic, being held this week in Jerusalem.

#3 asks an interesting question. Is it halachically permissible to castrate a sexual offender if it is shown to resolve their perversion? The Gemara in Bava Metzia (somewhere around Daf 90 if I remember correctly) says that even goyim are commanded not to castrate animals (I presume the same holds for people). But is this a different case? Are they halachically called a "rodef", and would that permit castration? Would halacha prescribe that they remain in jail their whole life rather than castrate them?

This short sentence is a total disgrace. In Ramapo, shoplifters must spend more time in jail than this. The politicians will have him out within one month, I bet. Parents, please be careful of this man and don't let him near your sons.

Pedophilia can never be healed. They continue to molest forever until they are jailed or die.

Not sure if you are a real MD or not - but let's clarify.

Therapy is not a "cure" It's like saying an addict to anything who underwent rehab and has been sober from their substance for a set amount of time is "cured". They are not "cured" even while in sobriety - it is a lifelong battle to stay that way and most relapse.

Chemical castration is not a "cure" - it is a treatment. Calling it a cure is like saying that someone diagnosed with schizophrenia who is on anti-psychotics is now cured of the schizophrenia. He is not cured - he is treated. As soon as he stops taking the medication his diagnosis and it's manifestations are apparent again.

The bigger problem in my opinion is that we are afraid to name the "RODEF" because of loshon hora. Why didn't we have a problem mentioning Aron Levy because of loshon hora. We have a right to protect our kids. If because of holding back the Rodef's name a child got hurt, then, the who ever stood by quietly is oiver "LO SAMOD AL DAM RAYECHO".

Yes, Mr. Anonymous he is a real Doc. I know who he is. He's a neurologist. As far as his using the term "cure" - he is speaking to the public at large, not giving a medical lecture or writing a medical doc. You might be technically correct, but what is your point of criticizing him? If you're also a med professional, why don't you post your name and title? So when you post something that's not 100%, we can call you out about it. At least he doesn't hide behind Anonymous!

If the person actually is a Rodef, than yes, the name would be publicized. But when someone is just accused (not like in this case), there would not be any justification for publicizing the name.

First - I am not a Mr.
Second - the fact that he is speaking to many people who are NOT in the medical field is exactly why he should not use the term "cure" and why I (RN) decided to suggest clarification.
Third - I was not criticizing him - nor was I attempting to berate him. (that's just how you took it) - I think that people may become confused by his choice of words. It's semantics - that's all.
Fourth - he could probably speak for himself - but apparently someone who chooses the word "Truth" as pseudonym thinks he/she is less anonymous than someone who writes "anonymous". What are you "hiding" from?

Just because a person has yet to have a trial and a verdict does not mean they are not a rodef. If there is reason to believe the person is a danger - even before a verdict - then he is a rodef and in order to protect the children in his vicinity he needs to be named.

In any other location than Ramapo, he would serve a long jail sentence. There are two attorneys who represent these pedophiles and both attorneys have lost their NY license and then got it back. Shanda on us and shanda on them.

#6 The use of the term "cure" is not applicable to this behavior. It might be more informative & accurate to give statistics regarding lack of known subsequent events.
