No civilians were injured during the fire at 533 East 139th Street and no mail was destroyed. However, the roof and the second floor of the post office were severely damaged.
Officials and witnesses said workers on the roof were installing equipment on the roof and possibly using a highly flammable tar that may have ignited.
The firefighters said the mail inside of this post office facility was not affected, either. [wabc]
