Photo: FLash90Jerusalem – MK Rav Yisrael Eichler, Chairman of the hareidi United Torah Judaism faction in the Knesset, lambasted Opposition Leader Tzipi Livni over the diatribe she directed Saturday night at hareidi Jews and settlers in Judea and Samaria.
“The angry outburst by Kadima chairwoman Mrs. Livni, according to which hareidim get everything through blackmail and therefore do not take part in the social protest, stems from Kadima’s drastic downturn in the polls, with a loss of ten Knesset seats.”

“The protesters know that Kadima and Netanyahu both brought a capitalistic catastrophe upon both the middle class and the disadvantaged class. It is not for nothing that the protest movements despise Kadima as much as they despise the Likud. The public understands that the Sharon-Netanyahu-Olmert-Livni governments carried out the programs of the plutocrats. They bankrupted the masses for the tycoons who created cartels and destroyed competitiveness in the food and cellular markets and the entire Israeli economy.”

“Livni and her court journalists exhibit chutzpah,” he said, “in trying to turn the tide of the public protest against the hareidim and settlers. As of now, this despicable attempt has failed. Kadima and its advisors know that the loyal Jews are the first to be hurt by the decrees of the cruel capitalism, starting with the housing

Rav Eichler may be right about Livni’s motives but public opinion has turned against the hareidim before and without Livni’s input..

Wow…if that translation is accurate, he certainly speaks well and pulls no punches.

As far as #1 ’s comment above, “public opinion has turned against the hareidim before and without Livni’s input” but certainly as the result of people like her, from the early Zionists on down, demonizing Torah and its followers at every turn. Livni may at least in part be considered in the category of minhag avoseihem beyadeihem like so many haters of all stripes today who don’t even know why they hate anymore.

I think Rabbi Eichler needs a lesson in history and economics.
How in all that is holy, is capitalism to blame? Israel users a hybrid socialist, crony capitalist system of economics. There is another name for this sort of system, fascism. True free market capitalism is not practiced in Israel, and not even in the USA anymore unfortunately. For all of the gedolim of yesteryear being against socialism, whether it be marxism, leninism, fascism, nazism, etc, the chareidi community sure seems to love all that redistribution of wealth through force of government, or as the Hashem calls it, gezeilah!

Rav Eichler is complaining rightfully about the crony capitalism in EY where a few connected families have a monopoly on many industries. That is the reason prices are high, and it is why customer service and the quality of consumer goods in EY are abysmal.

no you are most orthodox jews in israel dislike the charedim as well but the fact is most israelis still identify with the orthodox ideals but you have moved away from them as well itits not easy to see your tax dollars going to those that spit at you dont lift ba finger to help themselves and live off society and give nothing back

Although I do agree we should not allow a monopoly in any industry, but Capitalism in general is the best thing that happened to mankind. Since its implantation the standard of living and length of life improved dramatically.

Israel too, is much batter-of since they moved to a more capitalist system (in the 1990). Thanks to that there economy is strong and growing.

    Hitler and Stalin were socialist.

I as a frum Jew would never let my sons join the army. How could you trust the physical and spiritual life of your kids, run by racist secular Jews. In 1973 the yom kippur war 500 orthodox settler soldiers were used as cannon fotter ,to show the world that Israel was attacked first. They knew the war was coming through their intelligence and yet left the borders defensless murdering five hundred shomer shabbos yidden. These secular leaders did the same in Lebanon. Satmar rebbe was right.
