Israel – Researchers have found evidence that Golda Meir, the future prime minister of Israel, tried to persuade the United States government to bomb the Auschwitz death camp.

A number of Jewish leaders asked the Roosevelt administration to bomb the camp, or the railways leading to it, in 1944. What was not known until now is that one of those who sought the bombing was a young Zionist leader in Palestine who would later become Israel’s most renowned prime minister: Golda Meir.
Researchers from The David S. Wyman Institute for Holocaust Studies, based in Washington, D.C., recently discovered documents in American and Israeli archives revealing the role of Meir in the bombing controversy.
In an exchange of correspondence uncovered by the Wyman Institute, Meir forwarded one of the European messages to the Histadrut’s US representative, Israel Mereminski, in July 1944 together with an appeal to ask US officials to undertake “the bombing of Oswienzim* (Auschwitz) and railway transporting Jews” to the death camp. Meir’s appeal was cosigned by another Histadrut official, Heschel Frumkin.
Jewish leaders who requested the bombing of Auschwitz invariably received a stock reply from Assistant Secretary of War John McCloy, claiming it was “impracticable” because it would require “diversion of considerable air support essential to the success of our forces now engaged in decisive operations.”
Research by Prof. David S. Wyman later revealed that, in fact, US planes in 1944 repeatedly bombed German oil targets adjacent to Auschwitz–some of them less than five miles from the gas chambers–so it would not have been a “diversion” to have them strike the mass murder facilities.
Yup, the Dem administrations of FDR and Truman couldn’t care less that yidden were slaughtered. Bayamim Haheim Bazman Haze.
The Roosevelt Administration had blood on their hands by refusing to bomb the railways as did Churchill. I am sure they are all paying a dear price for it YMS
FDR was being begged time after time to save Jews in many ways, he chose not to. FDR will forever be remembered for that. Sr’y
This further proves that many Yidden in the USA did try to save the jews of Europe.
Because of this we will enslave them through debt when Mashiach comes, B’E’H
From now on I’ll call it the YMS Drive instead of the FDR Drive, the circumstances on it brings the curses out on it anyway.
To #1 -Moshe M- Whereas you were correct about FDR, you were wrong about Harry Truman, who was a very good friend of Yidden. He ordered that over 1,000 Yidden whom were rescued from Europe in 1944, be allowed to remain in the USA; FDR wanted to send all of them back, but he died. Further, Truman was very sympathetic to the plight of Jewish refugees in Europe. He received Chaim Weitzmann at the White House, and within minutes after Israel declared itself a state, his Administration recognized EY (the first in the world).
I recall that up to about 30 years ago on 13 ave in Boro park there was an FDR democratic club in a neighborhood that had so many holocaust survivors. It was Dov Hikind who did away with them after many years.
The comments on this one are absolute nonsense. Battles are won by troops, but wars are won by supply chains. The fastest, best way to save Jews was to defeat the Nazis, and diverting forces from a target of great strategic value to one of dubious value would have been criminal. Keep in mind that, propaganda aside, WW2 bombers had zero pinpoint accuracy – it often took hundreds of bombers and/or multiple attempts to take down a factory. Do you think they could have taken out railyards or other facilities w/o thousands of pounds of bombs falling on the prisoners? Besides, as history proves, railyards were rebuilt in days; any success would have been temporary, and would have resulted in casualties elsewhere. How many allied soldiers would have died as a result of the additional fuel made available to German Panzers, or Brits died as a result of V2 rockets? The Nazis introduced Jet fighters (ME262) at the end. They could have turned the tide of the war, but for the fact that the Germans had no fuel to fly them. But whenever they did fly, they slaughtered US airmen. The allies had no defense against them at all! Amateurs have no business planning military strategy.
