The perp arrived at the synagogue around 4 am and tried to break into the building through the roof. However, he slipped and fell from a height of 32 feet into the synagogue kitchen. He landed on a table and was hurt breaking his leg and hurt his back.

When the perp discovered that he was unable to move, he was forced to use his cell phone and call the police and Magen David Adom rescue services.

Police and rescue teams were dispatched to the area and heard the perp crying out in pain. Some of the police officers recognized him from previous property offenses and understood that he had apparently tried to break into the place.

He was rushed to a Be'er Sheva hospital, where he received medical treatment. In his questioning he denied that he had tried to break into the synagogue, claiming that he could not remember how he got there.

According to the perp, he went on a walk in Ofakim after he got into an angry dispute with his wife, and suddenly found himself injured inside the synagogue.

Superintendent Yossi Farjun, commander of the Ofakim police station, said, "One could say that he experienced a work accident. He committed an offense of not keeping Shabbas, as well as the commandment 'Thou shall not steal.' The hand of God apparently stopped him on time."

Farjun added that the perp was placed under a five-day house arrest following which he would be indicted. [Ynet]
