And I thought I lived in the United States of America, not the State of Israel. What’s next? A Likud versus a Kadima campaign for President with a Zionist flag over the White House and celebrations on the Washington Mall on the birthday of Golda Meir?!

Odd And we wonder why the world thinks that Jews have too much influence. Why does a local government in the USA have to proclaim a day for a NON U.S. citizen and a NON N.Y. resident? It would make more sense if Paris municipality announced Gilad Shalit day, at least there he is French citizen, though he didn’t live there. Political kidnappings, violence and tragedies happen every single day around the globe. Will the NYC city council members focus on them too and proclaim a day for kidnapped Colombian soldiers by FARC?

I agree with #1 . There have been American soldiers who have been kidnapped, while on duty in Afghanistan and Iraq. Yet, one does not see the City Council proclaiming a day for those POW’s.

just a shame he wasn’t wearing a black hat and smuggling drugs, then we would hear a different story from some people here

Reply to #1 – how can you speak that way – don’t Jews take care of eachother? Enlighted, I think needs some enlightment – what do you mean by a non citizen, is he not your own yid. This is an Israeli soldier kidnapped by Hamas and you think we Jews in NY should not try to help? Jews all over the world should be helpinng and davening.

Where are all the human rights advocates who are always the first to condemn Israel? Where are their voices now, when an Israeli soldier is being held for over five years against the rules, a clear human rights violation! Let us unite around the world and obtain the release of the hero Gilad Shalit. V’Shovu bonim ligvulom!
