The governor is proposing new legislation under which DNA samples from every person convicted of a crime in New York would be added to the registry.
The bill will also streamline DNA collection and increases the ability of defendants to use genetic evidence to prove their innocence.
An expanded DNA database was one of the Spitzer’s major campaign issues last year.
Currently DNA is only collected from felony offenders. [ny1]
