Gibson’s publicist, Alan Nierob, told The Associated Press Friday that Gibson is working on a deal with Warner Bros. to develop the film through his company, Icon Productions. Nierob said the studio also would like Gibson to direct, but Gibson will decide whether he wants to do that once a script is finished.
The movie is being written by Joe Eszterhas of “Basic Instinct” and “Flashdance” fame.
Gibson, the Oscar-winning director of “Braveheart,” has defended himself against accusations of anti-Semitism ever since his 2006 drunken driving arrest, in which a deputy’s report revealed he made Jewish and sexist slurs while in custody.
Jews everywhere should keep silent on this until AFTER he has produced it. Then prevent any distributor from putting it out. Let Gibson waste $40 million on it and then go bankrupt because nobody will distribute it.
This could have been a great movie… whoever thought to include Gibson has made its failure a certainty.
he will probably put anti semitic parts in the movie
This film has been talked about for over a year…
Don’t expect Judah maccabe to look like a chareidi in bnei brak.
The movie has a promising future; it will be a smashing box office success in the theaters of Teheran, and Mr. Gibson already secured the assurance from Al Jazeera to show it in prime time.

Ti mir nisht kan toivos, Mel.
I would not trust him. to make a movie like this.
he is and his father are antisemitic and his father openly denies the holocaust
Why won’t this Gibson character just go away and drink himself to death?
Who says Mel Gibson doesn’t like Jews?! He likes Jews. Only those that are dead. Proof. He wants to make a (Second) movie about dead Jews. The first one was very popular, too.
I’ve actually known about him wanting to make a film about the Maccabees since *before* his big anti-semitic tirades a while ago.
Was Steven Spielberg not available or something?! (lol) Why should people allow this son-of-a-holocaust-denier to make this movie?!
If he does it… I say Jew & Gentile alike should boycott it!
I can’t think of a worse person to tell the story of Judah Maccabee, than Mel Gibson.
This is a big shame for the gentile community if you ask me…
Wynona Ryder (who is Jewish) stated that Mel also started making anti-semitic remarks about her at a social function, years before the incident with the Jewish Deputy Sheriff.
With any luck he 217;ll make a movie about Mohammed and some Imam will declare a fatwa and he 217;ll go into hiding 230;or drink himself to death (thanx poster #8 ).
The Book Of Maccabees is actually included in the christian bible. He will probably portray it just like it’s written there. Mel Gibson only has a problem with Jews that lived after yoshke.
Purim is on the way how about mordhe and easter…..
The guy can rant and explain ’til he’s blue in the face, but his words and actions continue to betray him. He’s an anti-Semitic, sexist, homophobic, racist, violent drunk who has a history of domestic abuse and disorderly conduct. Let him develop all the biblical themed projects in the world. I for one will not spend one red cent or waste one second to see his movies.
I wouldn’t expect him to know anything about who the Maccabees were and what they stood for. He surely doesn’t know the acronym maccabee stands for “Mi komocho Boeilim Hashem”, and he won’t the portray anything accurately at all. It will a complete false portryal of Yehuda haMaccabee. It will be a complete sheker.
Let me start with saying that I’m a big Mel Gibson fan and I think he’s one of the greatest actors of our time or all time.
I think we as a society have become very sensitive and politically correct . I know many people that when they cut off on the road by an individual od any race would make a racists remark or even curse and they are not racists at all, its just somthing some people

All I’m saying is don’t be so quick to believe every great headline, most of us have made racist remarks at some point in our lives but its not news worthy , just because he’s a public figure doesn’t make it worse than your remark
