New York – Commercial Building Topped $6B in 2005

    New York – Almost $6 billion was spent on the construction of office buildings, warehouse and other non-residential construction in New York state in 2005. The spending supported more than 88,800 full-time jobs, according to a new study.
    Overall, New York ranks seventh in the country in commercial construction spending, behind California, Texas and other larger states.

    The report also found that for every dollar spent in new non-residential construction, the New York state economy gains $3.09 in benefits.
    Professor Stephen Fuller says, “Most products in commercial development are manufactured in the local economy, so this creates manufacturing jobs; there are also a lot of white-collar jobs that are created, like lawyers, brokers and marketing people.”

    Office construction totaled $1.5 billion in 2005, which supported 22,700 jobs. Work on existing buildings reached $81.45 million in 2005, which supported 1,507 jobs. [Crain’s NY]

    i come over the Williamsburg Bridge every day and i cant understand what this stupid blue building (the one in the picture above) is all about, is this what they call today nice?
