New York, NY – Mayor Bloomberg defended higher tolls on Port Authority crossings, saying they’re necessary to keep the bridges from tumbling down.

The mayor conceded that the jacked-up tolls — rising from $8 to $12 for those paying with cash would have an impact on the city’s economy.

The tolls will “certainly hurt some businesses and some people,” Bloomberg said on his weekly WOR Radio show.

“On the other hand, if one of the bridges fell down, how would you feel about that for the economy?” the mayor said.

Fear monger, and liar. The toll hike has nothing to do with the bridges tumbling down.

And YOU voted for this guy.

maybe nix some handout programs and goverment waste to maintenance the bridges besides why is gas in brooklyn higher then the rest of the country?

With all due respect Mr. bloomberg, the toll hike is for real estate projects for the MTA such as ground zero, why should we pay for that? You are leing and deceiving.

How is it that our bridges and tunnels are so much more expensive to maintain than those everywhere else?

Of course he would support toll hikes. He’s all about money! He doesn’t care how it affects the hard working Americans who will have to pay more to get to and from work, will, therefore, bring home less, and consequently spend less. There’s no way this will help the economy whatsoever. They should cut the salaries of the head honchos to pay for whatever upkeep is needed.

So for an extra 4.00 Bloomberg is saying a bridge won’t fall down? Hmm. if the tolls were going to be raised 1.00 Bloomberg would say bridges are not safe anymore?

    Bloomberg is a crack pot.

Bloomberg is 100 percent right. We have delayed needed repairs and maintenance on the bridges and tunnels for too long. This money is needed now and people will just have to pay the higher tolls for a good cause.

What else can we expect from this filthy rich ruthless mayor…
How dear do you charge $12 to get from point A to point B in one city?
Also, we don’t see the Willy, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queensboro bridges falling down, without any tolls on them…
Besides let the PA publically disclose how much money they collect, how much was spent on bridge & tunnel maintainence / repair, and how much was spent to build the money loosing World Trade Center… How much money the fat cats on the top are getting in salaries… and last but not least the biggest crime of all, the practice of paying out millions in retirement pensions based on their last year of employment, including all the ficticious racked up overtime …

When there’s a building project, the investment banking firms would sell bonds to raise the money — at least that’s what I remember from my days working at one. This is a weird way to raise money for a building.
The AAA (American Automobile Association) says this is against the law and is challenging it. Hooray for them!

Any of you old enough to remember the West Side Highway and what the lack of maintenance can do?

I wouldn’t count on AAA its a bit to late
Thanx for all those who voted such a selfish, arrogant and careless person into Office.
we all knew from the past that we cant expect anything better form him and yet…………….
    When are we gonna learn

Of course this billionaire out of touch mayor is for the toll hikes. He flies his private jets to his overseas mansions every weekend and has no sense of what it is like to be a working person.

The trip to brooklyn from lakewood is now about $25.00 just for tolls.

i have an idea, why not rename the bridges after donors who would give big bucks to maintain them such as his honor himself and others.
perhaps trump too (i think he should have been president)

When the bridges were originally built they took out a bond to pay for them and put in tolls to pay off the bond saying that when the bond is paid off they would take away the tolls, maintenance is taxed by a seprate commuter tax. The simple truth is the bonds were pairs off decades ago an they never took the tolls away instead keep easing it to sub mass trans and their put of control budgets. It is literally “highway robbery” this is not just bloomberg, all politicians have a hand in this.

I think that most people just want to know where all this money going. The PA must open their books so hard working NYers can see just where all this cash is going..

The GWB rakes in about one million dollars a day and the money at least 99% of it goes to pay for construction of the new world trade center, that’s against the federal law which clearly states that tolls should go only for road services

If I had his income I’d also favor toll hikes. Higher tolls will keep those of us with average incomes off the bridges and tunnels meaning less traffic for his chauffeur to deal with,

Billionaire Bloomberg is already senile and has been out of touch with reality and the needs of average New Yorkers for a long time. That’s what happens when you overstay your welcome in public office for 3 terms. Other than putting unwanted bike lanes, pedestrial islands, raising meters/tolls and scaring the heck out of everybody with Irena, what else has he accomplished? Nothing! It’s time for the old age home, Mike.
