Brooklyn, NY – Councilman Simcha Felder might be known for many things: His wit, his sense of humor and his hatred of those circulars that pile up on your doorstep.

But even he readily admits he will never be known as a fashion plate.

So he was unsurprised – although slightly insulted – when his office received an e-mail from a personal image consultant offering her services.

“You have been a significant figure in the public eye while representing your voters,” read the unsolicited cyber-pitch. “I believe in a position such as yours that it is important to look as polished as possible. Another fact is that the first impressions we make on people are largely based on our appearance, where looking great might work in your favor as well. Also it’s always good to know what colors and styles work to compliment your features.”
Felder said he thought at first tat the e-mail targeted him, specifically. But he then spoke Staten Island Republican Councilman James Oddo and realized the rest of the Council got it, too.

The consultant explained in the e-mail that she had read azbout Speaker Chris Quinn’s recent dress code memo, which was actually sent to central staffers, not Council members, spelling out the specifics of what is and is not allowed on casual Fridays.

UPDATE: I reached the consultant, Marina Albin, who confirmed that she had in fact sent the e-mail to every Council member, but said she has not heard back from any of them yet.

Albin said she has seen various lawmakers from time to time on NY1 and determined that “some of them, not all of them, can use some image updates.” [nydailynewsblog]
