Washington – A new proposal would set the first maximum standard for arsenic in apple juice as the Food and Drug Administration continues to test for the substance.

Although no one says the juice is unsafe, the issue drew attention last week when TV’s Dr. Mehmet Oz said lab testing found what he suggested were troubling levels of arsenic.
The FDA, however, found no raised levels even in the batch Oz used. Later, even Oz said juice is safe.
Now U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer of New York is calling for the first standards of arsenic in juice. He says the rising amount of foreign juice prompts the need.
The FDA has monitored arsenic in juice for years and has issued an “import alert” that requires foreign sellers to prove their juice is safe.
This is really important. Its good that someone of his political clout is voicing his opinion on this issue instead of wasting his time, like speaker Boehner, discussing an unimportant vote regarding Israel.
If everyone, including the original reporter, say that the juice is safe, what’s the problem. It’s clear to me that this is simply good ol’ Chuckie trying to keep his name in the papers. K’d’ amri inshi, “The most dangerous place to be in Washington is between Charles Schumer and a Television camera.”
