Crown Heights, Brooklyn – At 7:45 this evening a fire broke out in the second floor of a Jewish home on Crown St. The incident began while an electrician who was working on replacing a section of damaged wiring in the ceiling, when a light bulb exploded suddenly and instantly set fire to everything around it.

The worker and all the residents immediately evacuated the home and called 911. Firefighters arrived on scene within moments and began working on putting out the fire. The entire block filled with thick white smoke and a column of black smoke was visible for blocks.

While battling the blaze the fire extended into the cockloft and broke through the roof of the house and flames were visible.
The fire was deemed under control within 20 minutes of the firefighter’s arrival.

Due to the intense heat of the blaze firefighters were forced to cut large holes in the roof of the home and break lots of windows, the next door house sustained significant smoke damage along with broken windows and cuts in their roof as well.
Three firefighters sustained light injuries while battling the blaze and were transported to Kings County Hospital for checkups and treatment, there were no injuries to any of the residents or civilians.
