The Rockland Legislature voted unanimously to approve the new smoking law. County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef has 30 days to sign or veto the measure; he has not announced his decision. Dr. Jeffrey Oppenheim, president of the county Board of Health, said Rockland was the only county in the state to approve such a law.

At a hearing before the vote, Robert Romanowski, of Monsey, also questioned how the law would be enforced and how drivers passing through Rockland were supposed to know about it. "It seems like the police can't even enforce the cell phone law," he said.

Critics have called the law an invasion of privacy and a violation of personal liberties.

But Oppenheim argued that the car is not private, saying the state already has laws regarding seat belts and child safety seats, and bans cell phones and alcohol consumption while driving. "The children need you to act as their collective voice," he told the Legislature. [AP]

This bothers you but wire taps and internet snooping by our gov’t doesn’t? If you’re worried about big brother having you under his thumb, it’s not the libs you should be worried about.

Just dumb. Why dont they do something about bloomberg approving an arab only public school instead of teaching us how to be fathers.

“But Oppenheim argued that the car is not private, saying the state already has laws regarding seat belts and child safety seats, and bans cell phones and alcohol consumption while driving.”

Typical lib trying to jam his agenda down our throats, the examples he give has everything to do with prevention of an accidence and in case of an accident to prevent injury..

Although I disagree with all those laws (except alcohol) as well…this is totally different this is about big brother telling us how to deal with our children.

Of course as a blanket statement one should not smoke with their kids in the car…but do we really want the gov telling us that.

What’s next, you can’t listen to certain music because it might hurt the kid.
if your kids crawl you must have gates by the stairs.
    Crazy crazy crazy….

Even if you hate smoke and smokers you should all write to the County Executive and tell him to veto this…it BAD for all…this is only the beginning
