“The biggest concern is parking, all of the parking on 86th Street is going to be eliminated for the period of time they are in the commercial district,” said John Logue, who is the president of 86th Street Bay Ridge BID.

“No matter how you slice it, there’s going to be a problem,” said City Councilman Vincent Gentile. “There’s going to be inconvenience.”

The nearly $27 million project will replace century old water mains and sewers underneath an approximately mile-long stretch of 86th Street.

Talks among elected officials, community leaders, and the city’s Department of Design and Construction led to the project length being cut from two years to 18 months. Residential sections will be worked on during the day. In the business district, it will be night work, which will halt during the holiday shopping season. [ny1]
