One of the mayor’s closest political advisers, Jake Menges, hosted private meetings with a host of key Republicans in the state, including Manchester Mayor Ted Gatsas, likely gubernatorial candidate Kevin Smith, Congressman Charlie Bass and GOP activist Stephen Talarico, owner of Manchester Harley-Davidson.

“Jake said to me, ‘Just keep your powder dry for another few weeks,'” Talarico told The Associated Press.

Giuliani has visited the first-in-the-nation primary state four times already this year and advisers have maintained regular contact with potential staffers in the event he decides to seek the presidency. During his last trip in July, Giuliani said he wasn’t convinced any of the candidates were strong enough to defeat President Barack Obama. Until he is, he said he wouldn’t rule out a run of his own.

“These are a lot of qualified people,” he said at the time. “Do they have a good chance of winning? I don’t know the answer to that.”

Giuliani was hesitant to pursue any political activity near the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, but seems to sense an opportunity given the continued dissatisfaction among Republican voters with the current slate of candidates.

Smith, a Giuilani supporter in 2008, said he met with Menges in a Manchester coffee shop Wednesday afternoon.

“They were just gauging my thoughts about whether there’s room for his candidacy,” Smith said. “I told them that my sense, based on the calls for (New Jersey Gov.) Chris Christie to get in, is there’s still some discontentment among Republicans and there could be a spot for another candidate. That being said, time is certainly winding down.”

Menges did not indicate a timeline for Giuliani’s final decision.

Giuliani is very unpopular outcide of NYC and that’s besides the fact that republicans are looking for a strong conservative candidate

Sure…lets elect the guy who was unable to provide the NYC police and fire departments with basic communications equipment that could operate in the twin towers or even allow first responders to speak with others from a different agency.

His LAST failed presidential run should have taught him something!

Mr. Guiliani… we all respected you for your assistance during one of the roughest times in this country’s history, and when you were called “America’s Mayor” hardly even a Liberal argued with the narrative.

But that was then, and this is now my friend, and the country (and even a lot of your own base), has already solidly told you “No thank you” more than once by now.

    Take the hint! (lol)

Besides, considering the direction the GOP is headed in right now, there’s no way they’d nominate you as their candidate! You are way too friendly with the gay community & too liberal for them on women’s issues as well, I can assure you!

Let us give Giuliani the credit he deserves. He was the one who made NYC livable again. He brought crime way down, and cleaned up the entire place. Whereas in the previous admin there were Crown Heights riots, and armys of squeegee men all over the place, he totally changed the face of the city. His successor was able to maintain the progress and follow Giuliani’s methods, but Giuliani was the one who invented them and implemented them to begin with. In general, every time there was a shooting or major event, he was there on the spot before anybody else and taking control. He was an incredible manager who showed strong leadership in 9/11. He was good to the Jews (remember how he threw out Arafat from some city event before 9/11), and we would be very lucky to have him as our president.

Put your ego back in your pocket Mr. Giuliani, the country is not holding its collective breath waiting for you to run for the office of President. You got a very loud and resounding “NO” 4 years ago, it’s not going to be much different this time around.

I think that anyone who could clean up NYC the way he did could clean up the country’s mess the liberals are leaving behind.
