Kiev – Ukrainian, Israeli Leaders Commemorate Nazi Massacre Victims

    Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Israel Avigdor Lieberman laid flowers to the foot of a giant monument at the National Historical and Memorial Preserve “Babi Yar” to commemorate tens of thousands of Jewish victims.

    A series of commemoration activities began in Ukraine on Sept. 29.

    Seventy years ago, a terrible tragedy occurred in Kiev, when Nazi occupiers murdered at least 33,771 Jewish citizens during a two-day massacre.

    In the following years, Nazi executed more than 100,000 people at Babi Yar, including thousands of Soviet prisoners.

    “a Giant monument” that’s a gross miss!!! the monument is a menorah about 7 feet tall, its barely noticeable in that huge park, I wonder who wrote this article, and whether it was meant to be cynical. So many yidden were killed there and yet stroll through the park(built over the cemetery) and you can’t tell!!!

    Sorry but I was there and I have a picture of that monument and it reads in yidish “oif dehm ort zenen imgekimen 150,000 krigs gefangene” meaning at this location were killed 150.000 war prisoners. Why they call families of men women and children “war prisoners” I don’t know.

    A new monument was built this year by a major Jewish businessman with the blessing of the government. The picture probably shows the old one.
